Hello, cousins!
I just received an old copy of a "Hollingsworth Register" that belonged to my grandmother. According to its contents, we are descendants of Valentine through Jason Lee Rainey (1884-1977), second child of Elijah Rainey (1859-1893) and Orleana Jane "Jennie" Hollingsworth (1861-1936).
My complete line back to Valentine, as far as I can tell, is as follows:
Me > James D. Colburn > Kathleen Holt Colburn > Ila Rainey Holt > Jason Lee Rainey > Jennie Hollingsworth Rainey > Jeptha Hollingsworth > John Hollingsworth > Samuel Hollingsworth > Jacob Hollingsworth > Samuel Hollingsworth, Jr. > Samuel Hollingsworth > Valentine Hollingsworth, Sr.
Most all of my family on the Rainey side are buried in the Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in the Stough Community in Fayette County, Alabama. However, there are reported to be several Galloways and Hollingsworths (John and Matilda, and Jeptha and Patsy, notably) in the "Hollingsworth Cemetery" also in northern Fayette County.
Thank you for establishing and maintaining this site and the resources here.

Ms.
Hello, we are descendants of Valentine. We have the Valentine book and the Hollingsworth Crest beautifully framed. My grandmother Christine Hollingsworth was a daughter of Mark Jacob Hollingsworth of Michigan. His widow (Roma Folger Hollingsworth) and seven children came to Denair in 1906 where a Quaker church was being built. My father is 90, John R. Chance, only son of Christine Hollingsworth. My Great Aunt Mildred Hollingsworth typed up our ancestry decades ago and passed it to us. (side note: Years, ago, when I lived in Pasadena, CA, I met a Jay Carmichael who was also a descendent of Valentine. Her grandmother, Jenna Hollingsworth had a popular home in the heart of Pasadena at one point). Meanwhile, back here in Denair, we are the historians of the little rural town. We have 60 acres of almonds, family farmed. The original Hollingsworth House is down the street and still lived in by Quakers, beautifully restored. In 2015, a tornado, not common here, swept down and caused a tree to fall on the Quaker Church. Because of insurance, the entire building was restored 'from the bones'. The piping under the foundation and all the way up. So, these early landmarks of this area are in good standing. We are near the Turlock/Denair Amtrak Stop. I have two brothers, Tom and Stanley. Hello to all of you cousins out there.

Merna - Thanks so much for dropping by. I hope you will check out our Facebook page too, and leave your full line back to Valentine here or on the FB page. Our organization leadership emails are available in the "about DVHSS" section, I hope you will contact our genealogist so that we can continue the discussion.
